Blog Entry #7: How did the Romans manage to effectively combine their whole empire into one unit?
The Romans managed to effectively combine their whole empire into one unit because the having a senate was completely destroying Rome. The senate was breaking down, murders were going on and no one was trying to fix this. In the senate, people were arguing about everything, murdering and lying. It was complete chaos. If the senate didn't like what was being presented as new possibilities to fix Rome, these ideas were shot down and the presenter was killed. Such as Julius Caesar. He was assassinated by the senate because of the way he ruled

Jared Diamond's thesis. Do you agree? Disagree? Do you need more information? Why?
I completely agree with Jared Diamond's thesis. I think it's good because he uses the basics. The region that they lived in was good because it was near water, which would help them with vegetation and agriculture. Being near water also helped because many animals went there to get water and it made it easier to catch them. They could capture animals and breed them in order to use them for labor and food. The plants that grew there were of good quality and they were easy to grow. The plants also had a lot of protein so the people could stay strong and healthy.

Choose two of the Chinese Philosophies and make a comparison and/or judgment about their effectiveness in maintaining order. (Make sure you include some specifics from the primary sources
The Daoists were a peaceful people who believed that the way to goodness was to just let things be and to just watch them grow. They reject formal learning and ignore political and social laws, While the legalists were the complete opposite. The legalists believed that strict rule was necessary and that human were naturally selfish. Unlike the daoists they believed in severe punishments. The daoists believed that they should just let things run their course.

Blog #3: What is the Most Effective Way for a Ruler to Maintain Order?
An effective way for a ruler to maintain order is to be powerful and remain organized. The ruler also needs to be able to appeal to other poeples so that there wouldnt be a huge revolt. To earn their people's trust and their respect through the way he used his voice and speeches in order to make his point known and make it seem right. The ruler could do that by making their "enemies" seem like theyre insignificant and make the people he rules feel superior. need to help the people they rule in a good economy and to convince them that what the ruler is doing is a good decision. An, example of a powerful ruler, is Adolph Hitler. He managed to make thousands of people believe that Jews were an inferior race and that they didn't deserve to exist. Hitler made people trust him through his speeches and the way that he acted even though he wasn't like the "perfect" blonde, blue-eyed people he spoke of, Aryans.

1. Advantages and Disadvantages of Farming
Do the advantages of agriculture and farming outweigh the disadvantages?
I think that the advantages do outweigh the disadvantages because agriculture and farming are the base of a civilization. With the agriculture, you grow your own food and stay living in one place instead of having to search for your food and never stop moving because you run out of food to find. So you would manage to grow your own city or village without trouble for most of the future generations to come, if it was well-cared for.
